Description

This workshop is formatted as a Question and Answer program discussing malpractice insurance questions of interest to psychologists and other mental health professionals. In addition, the program will cover brief practice management rules and responsibilities. Program Level: Intermediate to Advanced Example questions to be addressed include: -What factors should you consider in deciding upon how much insurance to purchase? -If your employer offers insurance is that sufficient or do you need something more? -Does the practitioner get to pick the attorney who will defend or is that determined by the insurance company? -What’s the difference between coverage for getting sued versus coverage to pay cost of legal fees to defend against a Board complaint? -What is tort coverage versus complaint defense coverage? -What is a “claims made” policy versus an “occurrence” policy? -What is a single claim maximum versus an aggregate maximum? -Are there potential problems to watch out for if you change insurance companies? -What is an insurance “tail” and when might you need one? -What happens to my coverage if/when you retire?
