Pirelli and DeMarco will address the present and emerging issues related to the intersection of firearms and mental health. The presentation will include an overview of firearms, relevant statistics, gun basics, and firearm policies and laws. Also, issues related to mental health, violence and domestic violence, and suicide will be addressed. In addition, they will focus on the emerging roles of psychologists in firearm-related matters, including those associated with evaluation and treatment. Program Level: Introductory Learning Objectives: 1. Identify two psychological components of and relevant statistics for firearm-involved domestic violence, violence, and suicide. 2. Distinguish one general violence and suicide risk factors from firearm-specific risk factors. 3. Apply two best practices principles related to firearms to your own clinical practice, in-line with Pirelli et al.'s Know, Ask, Do (KAD) model. 1 CE will be available for attendance.
