Program Description

This talk will present the current research on child sexual grooming. We will begin with a history of the term child sexual grooming and its relevance to cases of child sexual abuse. Next, current research on sexual grooming including the development of a universal definition, model and assessment instrument will be discussed and applied to various populations. The talk will conclude with the application of current research on sexual grooming to the prevention, detection, prosecution and treatment of child sexual abuse.

1. Describe the history and current state of the research on sexual grooming
2. Identify two sexual grooming behaviors and how those may vary depending upon characteristics of the individual perpetrating the abuse, the person experiencing the abuse and the context in which the abuse takes place.
3. Discuss two implications of sexual grooming research for the prevention, detection and prosecution of child sexual abuse
