The Arizona Psychological Association (AzPA), in collaboration with the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners (AzBoPE), invites you to a Psychology Community Forum that will provide an important update on the national and state-level development of master’s level psychology licensure and its potential impact in Arizona.

About the Forum
In recent years, the American Psychological Association (APA) has advanced accreditation for master’s programs in Health Service Psychology beginning in 2018.

Meanwhile, in February 2025, the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) approved its PRI-LM model, a regulatory framework emphasizing public protection. It addresses:

  • Program eligibility and education standards
  • Supervised experience requirements (600 hours pre-degree; 4,000 hours post-degree)
  • Examination requirements, including a potential master’s-level EPPP

Arizona’s Approach
The Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners has committed to approaching this issue thoughtfully and strategically, with a potential target of 2027 for introducing legislation. The Board has emphasized the importance of broad stakeholder engagement—including professional associations, academic programs, training sites, and licensed psychologists—to ensure the integrity of the process and protection of the public.

What to Expect
During this forum, we will:

  • Review the background and history of master’s level licensure efforts nationally
  • Discuss the APA and ASPPB models and their core provisions
  • Outline how AzBoPE is approaching potential implementation in Arizona
  • Provide background and elicit initial questions from attendees. Please note: this session is not intended to be interactive. Future forums will be planned to provide space for dialogue and feedback from the community.

Open Event
This forum is open to both AzPA members and non-members. We encourage you to share this invitation widely with colleagues and other interested stakeholders.

Recording
The session will be recorded and made available to AzPA members in the AzPA Member Portal following the event.
We anticipate that additional meetings and discussions will follow as this important issue continues to develop.

After RSVPing, you will receive documents developed by ASPPB’s Potential Regulatory Implications of Licensing Master’s-Trained Individuals Task Force (PRI-LM). Please review these documents prior to the discussion.
